Forging Ahead Designs represents the intersection of the driving philosophies in my life: reducing my global impact, sourcing sustainable materials, creating goods carefully one at a time that will last a lifetime, and community support. Steel, wood, and leather are all strong natural materials that have been utilized for ages. When provided a minimal amount of care they will serve for generations, but will ultimately return to the earth completely, unlike many modern materials that will remain as waste for thousands of years.
The steel that I use in my cutlery is purchased right here in my home state of New Jersey, and the leather that I utilize would otherwise be a waste product, destined to sit in a landfill. Wood is sourced from local and sustainable small businesses, often using byproducts of furniture makers. I focus my efforts on local and community markets, where I also provide knife-sharpening and restoration in order to reduce our throw-away culture. Everything that I present is made by my own two hands; forged, shaped, and hand-sewn.
